Companies eye Wyo. for clean fuel plants

Published: Saturday, March 12, 2005 10:42 PM MST
With oil selling at more than $50 a barrel and a national energy bill that promises to boost clean fuel technologies, at least two companies have their eyes on Wyoming's vast reserves.

A Houston-based coal liquefaction company made a deal with Arch Coal on Friday to provide coal for its proposed Carbon County plant and a Pennsylvania-based firm will be in Cheyenne on Tuesday to roll out the clean coal plans it has for Wyoming.

Gov. Dave Freudenthal said the projects should be encouraged. Over the past few years, several companies have met with state officials to talk about developing the state's coal reserves through liquefaction and gasification. Those technologies would produce zero-sulfur diesel, hydrogen and electricity.
