Husband-wife team joins staff at Family Medical Care

In a county where primary care is at a premium, every new provider counts. Gillette is seeing the arrival of not one but two, as Drs. Craig and Breck McCarty join the staff at Family Medical Care.Newlyweds of just over three months, the McCartys are set to provide general family practice services for patients.
After meeting a few years ago in their residency program at Rapid City, the two doctors joined their first practice together down in Torrington. In search of a bigger town and more agreeable on-call hours, they returned their sights to Gillette, where Craig, 42, had spent some time as a locum. They interviewed at a few clinics around town, ultimately settling on Family Medical Care.
As married partners, working in the same office gives them a chance to collaborate throughout the day.
“We consult off of each other constantly,” said Craig, who began seeing patients Sept. 15.
Breck, 30, is coming off of surgery for breast cancer. She battled through chemotherapy while in Torrington, going so far as to work part-time in between the draining sessions, which she received in Rapid City. She has to wait until six months after surgery to go back to work, and as such will not begin seeing patients until Oct. 15.
A recent community needs assessment conducted by the hospital identified a “high need” for family practice physicians in Campbell County, making the McCartys’ arrival especially valuable. Those interested in scheduling appointments can call Family Medical Center at 682-3333.
