Many people are willing to open up their wallets for a good cause, but how about opening up your veins?

United Blood Services is calling upon the community to come out and donate blood starting the day after Christmas.

Blood drives are from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Dec. 26 and 27 and form 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 28 at Campbell County Recreation Center Canyon Room.

People can say whether they are donating on behalf of the Fire Department or the Police Department. The two compete in "Gillette Guns 'N' Hoses" annually to see which agency can get the most donations.

Since 2011, United Blood Services has started offering health information to donors like height weight, pulse, body mass index and hemoglobin. Donors can access that information at bloodhero.com or use the website to make reservations. Some of those statistics can be a way for people to find out about a health condition.
