Campbell County’s historic ranches: the Sorenson Ranch

Posted: Monday, June 27, 2011 12:00 am | Updated: 2:41 pm, Tue Nov 5, 2013.

The true spirit of adventure and hard work is no more evident in any Campbell County pioneer than in the Danish plasterer’s son who landed in tiny Spotted Horse more than 100 years ago. The descendants of Charles Sorenson threw a huge party on Aug. 1, 2009, to celebrate the ranch’s 100th anniversary.

The date also marked the 121st anniversary of the birth of Sorenson, who had been the first surviving son born to Peter and Aunein (“Anine”) Sorenson of Tylstrip, Denmark. The two had married at 20 and 17, respectively, and departed in the spring of 1883 on their honeymoon to America.
