There are fewer cattle but milk production is up

The numbers of cattle and calves in Wyoming on Jan. 1 totaled 1.3 million head according to a release from the Wyoming field office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service. The numbers showed a 5 percent decrease from the year before.

The survey counted 65,000 head of Wyoming cattle being fed to go directly to slaughter at the start of the year, a 10,000 decrease from last year.
