Shawn Dale Dowdy, 33, of Spearfish, S.D., died Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013.

Shawn was born Aug. 20, 1979, to Rodney and Sharon (Cook) Dowdy in Newcastle. He graduated from Moorcroft High School and went to college on a football scholarship, graduating from Black Hills State University with a bachelor of science degree in technology.

He worked for Ainsworth-Benning Construction Inc. as an estimator/project manager. Shawn enjoyed riding the motorcycle he built with his dad, camping, fishing, and watching football (especially the Oakland Raiders and Black Hills State Yellow Jackets). He was a wonderful father and really enjoyed spending time with his kids.

He is survived by his children, Lillian, Chase and Olive, of Spearfish; his parents, Rodney and Sharon, of Moorcroft; his sister, Heidi (Dowdy) Welch of Gillette; and three nephews Evan, Isaac and Isaiah.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and sister, Melissa.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish, S.D. Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, at the Moorcroft Elementary School Gymnasium in Moorcroft with visitation one hour prior to the service.

Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Newcastle.

Gathering of friends and family will be at First United Methodist Church in Newcastle, following the internment.
