Funeral services for Betty Guderian, 86, of Milbank, S.D., the mother of a Gillette woman, were at 2 p.m. Saturday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waubay, S.D.

Burial was in Lakewood Cemetery in Waubay.

Mrs. Guderian, formerly of Ortley, S.D., died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, at Golden Living Center in Milbank.

Betty May Rider was born Oct. 26, 1925, to Mark and Estella (Kempter) Rider in Waubay. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waubay. She attended Waubay school and graduated as salutatorian of her graduating class of Waubay High School in 1944.

She taught school at Drywood School south of Sisseton in 1945. In 1948, she graduated from Bartron School of Nursing in Watertown in 1948 and became a registered nurse.

She married her high school sweetheart, Lyle Guderian, on June 12, 1949, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waubay. After her children were in school, she worked as a registered nurse at the hospital in Webster until her retirement in 1987. In 2007, the couple moved to Milbank.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years; three daughters, including Linda Randen of Gillette; one sister; eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 10 step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and three sisters.
