Bill would free up Utah liquor licenses

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah lawmakers have approved a bill that would allow restaurant chains to hold a master liquor license, rather than applying for individual permits.
The Senate committee on business and labor voted unanimously Thursday to approve the measure.
The bill is the latest effort to boost business and free up Utah’s coveted liquor licenses. It follows Gov. Gary Herbert’s May announcement that a lack of licenses was hindering business growth in Utah.
The move would allow chains with at least five restaurants to pick up the new permit. It would also amp up police presence near those restaurants.
