Biologists to bait grizzly traps in Yellowstone

Posted 9/10/12

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK — Biologists studying the grizzly bear population in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem plan to set several baited traps in the area beginning Tuesday and continuing until the end of October.

Members of the Interagency Grizzly Bear Study Team say that once trapped, the bears will be fitted with a radio collar and biological samples will be taken.

The traps will be placed in remote locations in Yellowstone National Park, and hikers who come across them are asked to stay out of the area. The study is part of a long-term effort to help wildlife managers devise programs to support the ongoing recovery of Yellowstone’s grizzly population.
