EDGEMONT, S.D. — A wildfire that scorched nearly 9,000 acres in southwest South Dakota is now 95 percent contained, and some firefighters who battled the blaze are being dispatched to other Western fires.

More than 400 firefighters fought the White Draw Fire near Edgemont. Last Sunday, a C-130 air tanker crashed, killing four of the six crew members from a North Carolina National Guard unit.

Firefighters say they were helped by heavy rain overnight. But the fire danger in the region is still high, and officials are urging members of the public to continue being cautious.
