CU considering scandal reporting requirement

Posted 10/4/12

BOULDER, Colo. — University of Colorado regents are considering a policy that would require school officials to notify the board of potential scandals.

The policy proposed Wednesday was prompted by a child sex abuse case at Penn State.

The policy could include serious crimes and potential scandals that could harm the university’s reputation or finances.

Officials cited serious mishandling by officials at Pennsylvania State University in the Jerry Sandusky scandal. An investigation by former FBI Director Louis Freeh found that the former chairman of the Penn State trustees board was briefed about the Sandusky case, but never shared that information with the entire board.
