Casper Mtn. residents will get to see burned homes

Posted 9/12/12

CASPER, Wyo. — Residents who lost homes and other buildings to a wildfire burning on Casper Mountain will be allowed into the fire zone to view the damage.

The Sheep Herder Hill Fire has destroyed seven homes on the mountain overlooking the city of Casper since it started on Sunday.

Fire activity has slowed because of cooler, more humid weather, but some 750 homes remain threatened by the fire.

Fire spokeswoman Laura McConnell says fire managers are optimistic about their prospects of getting more containment on the fire.

The fire has burned nearly 25 square miles and is about 10 percent contained. Investigators will also be in the fire zone looking into how the fire started and checking on additional structures that may have burned.
