CHEYENNE — The spokesman for Wyoming superintendent of instruction Cindy Hill is running for the state legislature in Laramie County.
Republican Jerry Zellars is seeking to unseat Democratic Rep. Mary Throne in House District 11. Zellars told the Casper Star-Tribune that he’ll take a leave of absence if he’s elected.
One prominent GOP lawmaker, Rep. Pete Illoway of Cheyenne, doesn’t agree with Zellars’ approach. He said Zellars should resign from his job if elected, freeing him from any conflict of interest in voting on education bills.
Zellars said he would abstain from voting on any bills where he sees a conflict. He said that would be whenever he would stand to gain personally from a vote.
Illoway is backing Throne in the race.
