Committee selected to choose next president of UW

LARAMIE — The University of Wyoming has selected 23 people to serve on a committee that will help choose the school’s next president.
The appointees, announced Friday by UW Board President Dave Bostrom, will work with a Florida-based consulting firm the board hired to help find a successor to current president Tom Buchanan, who plans to retire next summer.
The university said in a news release that the committee includes members “representing a wide range of interests.”
Committee members include UW trustees, faculty, staff and students, as well as a state legislator, community college president and representatives from various Wyoming industries.
A final decision is expected toward the end of February.
The initial screening committee will review the credentials of all applicants for the positions. The committee is composed of: trustees Howard Willson of Thermopolis, Betty Fear of Big Piney, John MacPherson of Saratoga, Brad Mead of Jackson and Dave Palmerlee of Buffalo; Anne Alexander, UW professor of economics and director of UW’s International Programs Office; Bryan Dugas of Cheyenne, first-year UW medical student in the WWAMI program; Alyson Hagy, UW professor of English and faculty athletics representative; Gracie Lawson-Borders, UW professor of communication and journalism, and associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences; Jim Magagna, executive vice president of the Wyoming Stock Growers Association; Scott Neu, incoming president of the UW Foundation Board; Paul Radakovich, vice president for operations, Rocky Mountain Power; and state Rep. Tim Stubson of Casper.
The committee will identify at least 12 candidates who warrant further consideration by about Dec. 10.
The list of at least 12 candidates then will be forwarded to a second screening committee, which will consist of: trustees Dick Davis of Sheridan, Bostrom of Worland, Warren Lauer of Laramie, Jeff Marsh of Torrington and Anne Rochelle of Casper; Michael Barker, UW professor of civil/architectural engineering and chairman of the UW Faculty Senate; Hagy; Brett Kahler of Casper, vice president of the Associated Students of UW; John McKinley, Cheyenne attorney; Ben Marks, computer support specialist with UW Residence Life and Dining Services, and chair of the UW Staff Senate; Neu; and Casper College President Walt Nolte.
