DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY
600 BLOCK KENDRICK AVENUE: A 48-year-old man told police that he watched four teenagers steal a ceramic baby Jesus from the manger scene in front of his home then smash it in a nearby alleyway. The man told officers that he bought the manger set five years ago for $1,600. He described the vandals as two boys and two girls. One of the boys was wearing a blue shirt and one of the girls a white coat. Police have not yet found the foursome, Police Sgt. Dirk Blackmer said.
BOMBER MOUNTAIN ROAD: A 28-year-old Gillette man was sent to the hospital with a broken arm late Wednesday night after he lost control of his 2004 Pontiac Aztec and hit a fence. Deputies say the man lost control on a washboard-laden curve on the roadway. When he hit the fence, a piece of 4-inch diameter pipe that was part of the fence shot through the vehicle’s windshield, hit his arm, then continued in the second row of seats. Firefighters repaired the fence temporarily while the man was taken by ambulance to Campbell County Memorial Hospital, Undersheriff Scott Matheny said. He was last listed as being in good condition at the hospital, according to hospital spokeswoman Karen Clarke.
NORTH HIGHWAY 59: Deputies began Wednesday to investigate the theft of more than $10,000 worth of copper wire and a radiator from a well site about 30 miles north of Gillette near Highway 59. A man responsible for the site told deputies that whomever stole the wire must have known what they were doing to remove the wire without getting electrocuted. There are no suspects in the case, Matheny said.
THEFT OF SERVICES
HUMPHREY’S BAR AND GRILL: A man who three days ago was arrested on suspicion of intoxication after he passed out in the bathroom at the Clarion Inn and Convention Center was again arrested Wednesday. The 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft of services after he ran up a drink and food tab of more than $150, then tried to walk away from the restaurant. Workers at the eatery tried to confront the man about his bill, but he walked away. Police arrested him a short time later near the restaurant, Blackmer said.
1900 BLOCK HARVEST MOON DRIVE: A 19-year-old man was ticketed for possession of marijuana at about 2:40 a.m. Thursday after police went to his house on reports of domestic violence. Before officers arrived, the man hid in the home’s crawl space. They talked to the man’s girlfriend who explained that the fight was only verbal. During a search of the house, they found the man huddled in the crawl space. He had a marijuana pipe and 1 gram of marijuana in his pocket, Blackmer said.
