Funeral services for Delbert Darwin Matheson, 70, of Gillette, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Gillette Memorial Chapel.

Burial will follow in the Mount Pisgah Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Gillette Memorial Chapel.

Mr. Matheson died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, in Aurora, Colo., at the Cherry Creek Nursing Center of heart complications.

Mr. Matheson was born May 16, 1942 in Sheridan to Leonard and Clara (Canoy) Matheson. He was raised and educated in Gillette, attending Campbell County High School. After finishing his schooling, he went to work in the construction field, worked in the oil fields and at local gas stations.

On Sept. 13, 1967, he married Donna Sutherland in Rapid City, S.D. The couple lived in Gillette while they raised their two daughters, Stacey and Dulcy. In 1970, he began working in the water department at the city. In the mid-’70s, Delbert and Donna took over the mail route between Gillette and Newcastle until 1980 when he returned to the city and worked there until his retirement in 2004.

In May 2010, he moved to Aurora, because of medical issues he had developed.

Mr. Matheson enjoyed retirement, particularly his Monday walks and coffee time with friends. He also enjoyed camping, motorcycling, flat track races, auto mechanics, as well as watching and participating in drag racing.

He is survived by his wife Donna of Gillette; daughters: Stacey Wilder of Parker, Colo., and Dulcy Black of Denver; four grandchildren; brother, Robert Matheson of Loveland, Colo., and sister, Billie Jean Arguello of Amaila, N.M., as well as several nieces and nephews.
