One Book, One Community program targets novel ‘The Dark Horse’

Want to have a role in naming a character in author Craig Johnson’s next book?
Here’s your chance. The Campbell County Public Library will kick off its One Book, One Community program Sept. 14.
Wyoming author Craig Johnson’s book, “The Dark Horse,” has been selected as the read-and-pass-along book in 2012 as part of the program. The library will hand out books and encourage residents to check out Johnson’s book at the library during its kickoff at 6 p.m. Sept. 14.
The book is available in hard copy, and also as an eBook and an audiobook CD.
Johnson will be on hand to read and talk about the making of the TV series, “Longmire” on A&E based on his book. The TV series has been renewed for a second season.
Johnson also will host a book signing after the program and another 100 books will be given to those who attend the event.
The goal of the One Book, One Community program is to build a better community in Campbell County through reading and discussion.
The concept is to “create the feeling of a countywide book club, where residents of different ages and backgrounds read and discuss the book,” said Patty Myers, director of the Campbell County Public Library system. “Overall, your library is encouraging county residents to read, watch, attend and win through a series of One Book, One Community events.”
The Wright Branch Library has scheduled its “The Dark Horse” book discussion on for 5 p.m. Sept.25.
The Campbell County Public Library’s After-Hours Book Discussion will take place at 6 p.m. Oct. 5.
That will be followed by the eighth annual Wine Festival and Character Auction a 6 p.m. Oct. 26 in the Clarion Inn. The Library Foundation and Pearls of the Prairie will host the event, which includes wines to sample and a silent auction.
A live auction, a character auction, also should add some excitement to the festivities. Johnson will auction off a name in a future Longmire mystery. The highest bidder will choose a character name.
Tickets for the wine festival will go on sale soon.
