Do you think hotel prices in Gillette are too high?

Posted 6/28/11

Rapidly rising hotel room prices for the week of the National High School Finals Rodeo have triggered angry calls to Cam-plex and the Campbell County Convention and Visitors Bureau from rodeoers looking for a place to stay.

Some of the attendees have been infuriated when confronted by room rates, many of which are more than $200 per night.

I volunteered at the Rodeo last year and was told someone called to reserve a room for a week and was quoted $69/night then when he gave the date it $189/night for that week only. That is outrageous! These hotels are just plain greedy! We don't have to gouge our guests to make a buck! Wednesday, July 6, 2011|Report this

Just an FYI, not all hotels are gouging. I work at the Settle Inn & Suites across from Cam-Plex and we actually lowered our rates for NHSFR. That's one of the big differences in this year and last year. Last year, most hotels set a block of rooms aside for rodeo at a discounted price. This year, only Settle Inn and Clarion set a block of rooms aside at a discounted price. The difference is in how housing was handled this year for rodeo. The Settle Inn agrees that we don't need to gouge our guests to make a buck. We'll have a much better reputation for Gillette if we are fair and honest all year long. It is called Supply and Demand, when there is limited gas or something happens gas prices go higher. When theres alot of rain or to much sun fruits and veggie prices go higher, when cotten is limited linens sky rocket, when there is a housing shortage house price sky rocket by the thousands.

I wounder if al these hotels were purely american owned if this would be such a big argument, or is it just because the majority of the hotels are owned by indians and pakistanis you have a problem with it. Any event in any town, the hotel prices goes up, I never read Billings Gazette or Casper Star Tribune, wall street journal and or USA Today say watch out Hotels are gouging. This is only In Gillette, Wyoming where the majority of the population are known to be against the khans and the patels.

No hotel that I know of is Holding a gun to the backs of the customers making them take there wallet out of there pocket to pay for a room, they have a choice to keep driving or to camp.

Really, does the majority of the population even know who the owners are of Gillette hotels?

Regardless of who the owners are, gouging does occur in Gillette, in Rapid City, Buffalo, Sheridan, Billings........ and every other town in our great nation that attracts tourist, whether it be for special events (eg: NHSFR, Pyrotech....) or just summer vacationers. Look around people, this is NOT just a Gillette problem, so if you feel the need to vent, please do so, but please be fair and don't just target Gillette. Monday, August 1, 2011|Report this
