Drug case involves 74 pounds of dope

RAPID CITY — A California man faces drug c harges after South Dakota authorities say they found 74 pounds of marijuana in the trunk of his rental car.
Sixty-seven-year-old William Spivey III, of Palm Springs, Calif., was stopped Friday for speeding about 10 miles east of Rapid City. The Highway Patrol says a police dog detected the drugs. Authorities also confiscated $1,500 in cash.
The Rapid City Journal reports hat Spivey made his initial court appearance via video conference Monday from the Pennington County jail. His bond is set at $200,000. He will enter a plea later.
Game, Fish and Parks regional supervisor Mike Kintigh says an agency officer used a shotgun to knock the lion from the tree, and a city police officer used a rifle to finish off the animal when it tried to run off even though it was mortally wounded.
