Bank statements published this week reveal a healthy condition of business in Campbell County and register a substantial growth in assets for the second quarter of this year. The combined capitalization of Gillette banks today is $75,000. The combined surplus accounts total $73,000, and the undivided profits amount to $17,000, making an actual working capital fund of $165,000. Loans and discounts as reported by the banks aggregate $1,331,444, which is an increase of $648,095 since the statements were published in March. Demand deposits likewise show a healthy growth. The figures on the statements published this week are $693,978. This is an increase of $61,060 over the previous statement of three months ago.

L.J. Probst caught six golden trout of a very rare species on Monday at Crystal Lake in the Big Horns. It is understood there are only two lakes in the United States that are stocked with this species, which is entirely different from the California golden trout. Sportsmen consider it a great feat to catch these fish, since they are very wary and only take bait. It is said they will not rise to artificial tackle in any season. The largest fish of the six weighed about three pounds.

A Gillette police sergeant has resigned the force while under internal investigation for possible violation of the department rules and regulations. Sgt. Don Waba resigned the force Friday. Lt. Jeff Pfau stressed that it was not a criminal investigation, but a “personal” matter. The alleged violation concerned “use of threatening and insulating language, general deportment, and conduct to be creditable to the department,” according to Pfau. Pfau said there would be no replacement of the sergeant until Chief Don Schneider returns from vacation next week. Waba, who served as president of the Campbell County Peace Officer’s Association, had been with the department less than a year.
