From the July 2, 1925 News Record Last Saturday afternoon while working at his spur bench in the rear of his store, Rex Schnitger plainly felt the tremors of the quake in the mountains west of here. Mr. Schnitger stated that about 5 p.m. Saturday he plainly felt the shock and could feel the slight movement of his building and that at the same time the plaster on the ceiling was shaken loose and fell to the floor. This is the first time we have been close enough to feel these quakes although they have been felt by cities near here.

From the July 7, 1949 News Record Forest service crews have begun the spraying of 5,000 trees in the Bear Lodge district of the Black Hills National Forest in a war on beetles. Ranger George Gorsuch said the battle against the Black Hills beetle may have gotten under way too late. The delay was occasioned by the slowness of Congress to appropriate the necessary funds. Gorsuch explained the beetles now are nearly ready to fly, and infect other trees. Most seriously infected areas of the district are being treated first, and it is expected the worst part of the beetle population will be killed. The project is expected to be finished sometime after July 10.
