Flood waters cascading down Spider Creek west of here Sunday night carried away the home of Fred Place, 78, a pioneer resident of the county. Place fled to higher ground and took refuge in a county highway truck. The bunk house and corrals of the Robert Grieve ranch also were demolished by the flood which endangered the lives of four ranch hands in the bunk house. Rainfall totaling 2.21 inches was recorded by the Government Weather Bureau at the airport here.

A gay miniature circus with animals is on display at the George Amos Memorial library this week to interest children in joining the Bookland Circus reading class this summer, Margaret Archibald, librarian, announced. Each summer a reading class has been opened to both rural and town children who are going into the third through the eighth grades this fall.

James Vigil was first place winner Sunday afternoon in the annual Jaycee Fishing Derby, and Bobby Fortner fished for second place Sunday at Dalbey Memorial Park. These two young anglers were the only fishermen in the derby competition who caught anything to win a fishing pole and creel each. James had two trout measuring 91⁄4 inches and 9 inches and two bullheads measuring 81⁄2 inches and 7 inches. Bobby’s catch was four bullheads measuring from 6 inches to 71⁄4 inches.
