B.B. Perkins of the Golden Rule Store paid a business trip to Newcastle Monday of this week. Ben says our sister city is sure putting on metropolitan airs and is enjoying a substantial and rapid growth as well as a splendid business. To get an insight into how real estate values had boosted in the last few months, he asked the price of a corner lot in the central part of the city and was given an “inside figure” for quick sale of $35,000. He says when oil is struck in Gillette, he now understands how all the fellows are going to get rich quick.

Announcement was make last night by Superintendent N.D. Morgan of Campbell County High School that the refilling of the municipal swimming pool would start as soon as possible today. The pool will be cleaned starting early today, and as soon as this is done the water will be turned on and the pool filled. It takes better than 24 hours to fill the pool, but is was believed that there would be sufficient water for swimming classes as scheduled. Local swimming enthusiasts who have had to postpone this popular summer sport due to lack of water to fill the pool will be able to swim again. For the past two weeks, barely enough water for swimming lessons were allowed to run into the pool because officials believed it inadvisable to deplete the city water simply as the fire hazard was too great.

Several Gillette girls are attending the 17th annual High School Band Clinic being held at the University of Wyoming. They are Camille Norfolk, Rita Spangler and Carol Vaught. The two-week clinic, a campus event from July 24 to Aug. 6, is under the direction of Edgar J. Lewis, UW associate professor of music. Guest conductor is Weston H. Noble, chairman of the music and director of the college concert band and choir. High point of the clinic activities is a band concert to be given for parents and the public in UW’s Arts and Sciences Auditorium the evening of Aug. 5. Miss Spangler is being sponsored by the Lion’s Club this year. This is the second year for Miss Vaught, who was sponsored by the local Lion’s group last year.
