The Odd Fellows celebrated a memorable occasion last Thursday evening when H.H. Given of Hope, Idaho, and former resident of Gillette for many years, conducted the ceremony of burning the old mortgage on the IOOF Hall. The celebration by the lodge had been postponed since last April when the final payment was made until Given could be present, it was explained, as he and Alex B. Maycock had helped in establishing the Odd Fellows Building association that financed the hall in April 1919. The construction was completed in 1920 and the lodge moved in, Given recalled, in giving a brief resumé of the 26-year struggle through good times and Depression, to repay the debt. Maycock, also present, spoke a few words in commemoration and noted that he and Mr. Given are the only two left of the original association. The regular business meeting was held, a luncheon served, and a short program of dancing concluded the evening.

A third championship round in the Junior Golf tournament being sponsored by the Gillette Rotary Club was organized and played off this week, according to O.J. McCleland, tourney chairman. Jill Mileski won the girls championship last Tuesday in the final rounds against Karen Kemp. The game was a close one all the way with Jill taking the honors by one stroke on the last hole. McCleland said the boys senior championship round last Sunday saw Eddie Ross winning over Ralph Harrod. The week before, Darryl Lynde won over Tom Record in the junior section of the boys tourney. The champions and runner-up in each division are to be the guests of the Gillette Rotary Club during its regular meeting on Sept. 8, McCleland announced.
