Participation in a nationwide essay contest will be sponsored in Gillette by the Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, it was reported to have been approved by that organization at their last meeting. Mrs. Clara Fox will be in charge on arranging contest details. They will also adopt a family overseas, they said, getting the name and address of some European family from station WHO in Des Moines, Iowa, which has carried on an “Adopt a Family” during the war and the peace. A special meeting has been called for Sunday, Sept. 15, Ila Bilbro, president of the Auxiliary, announced this week. It is to be held at the George Amos Memorial Library auditorium at 3:30 p.m. Mrs. Bilbro said the next regular meeting will be Oct. 2, after which a party is planned and the V.F.W. post members and husbands of the Auxiliary are invited.

Eight hundred and eighty pounds of 9- to 10-inch rainbow trout have been placed in the Parks reservoir during the month of August, according to an announcement by A.H. Greene, state fish warden. The reservoir has been furnishing some fine trout fishing, Greene stated, and since it is the only trout water in the county, it gets heavy fishing pressure. In effort to keep up with the demand, 2,500 catchable size fish were hauled from the federal hatchery at Spearfish, S.D., and stocked in the reservoir. Other efforts are also going and eradicating undesirable fish, he said. During the month of August, 1,121,106 fish were planted in the state and total planting for the first eight months of 1954 totaled 4,559,191 fish in Wyoming streams and lakes.

Credit workers of Gillette is hosting a fall fashion show Saturday. “Fashions for Gillette” will be presented by Tower West Lodge in the Wyoming Room from 2 to 4 p.m. Local merchants will be presenting their latest fashions featuring clothes for the office, casual wear, outdoor activity garments, evening wear and formal ensembles. Champagne and hors d’ouvres will be served. Tickets will be available at the door or by contacting Mary Coleman at 682-2585. They are $8 a piece or two tickets for $15.
