Next Saturday morning, Oct. 1, hunters throughout Wyoming will fire the opening shots of the season’s barrage against the army of ducks, reported to be on their way from the north toward the more temperate climates of Louisiana, Florida and points south. Federal regulations covering open seasons in migratory birds decree that ducks may be hunted from Oct. 1 until Nov. 30. The open season for deer in this county will open Oct. 15, extending until Oct. 31. The season on grouse, which opened on the 15th of the present month, will close on Oct. 14, the day prior to the opening of the deer season.

The first of a series of assemblies at Campbell County High School will present Don Raymond of radio and television fame with his marimba, accordion and piano numbers, C.H. Bowen, superintendent, announced. The program will be at 9 a.m. Sept. 8. This is a series of entertaining sponsored by the National School assemblies organization. Raymond has performed in cities from coast to coast.

Rain and winds gusting up to 53 mph marked the appearance of a fall storm in Gillette on Tuesday night and early today. National Weather Service observer Leland Landers reported 0.7 of and inch of rain had fallen between Tuesday night and this morning. KIML radio recorded an average wind speed of 32 mph overnight, with gusts reaching 53 mph. The overnight low was 41 degrees. Gillette still hasn’t experienced its first frost.
, but forecasters say there’s some chance of that tonight, with lows dipping into the mid-30s. The clouds and wind will be absent tonight, while sunshine and temperatures in the 70s are in Thursday’s outlook.
