The population of Campbell County has increased at the rate of a baby a day for the past week. Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Tyrell are the parents of a son born on Thursday of last week, Mr. and Mrs. John Cook had a son born Saturday and Mr. and Mrs. Oren Plaster of Savageton are the parents of a baby boy born Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Owen Ankeny of Teckia have a baby daughter born Tuesday and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Bauman are the parents of a son born Tuesday at the A.M. Mankin home. Mr. and Mrs. Louie Stok and Mr. and Mrs. Hamp Plaster each have baby daughters born yesterday.

Already this year, drivers in Wyoming have taken a heavy toll on wild game. Highway department officials and state highway patrolman estimate the number of deer, antelope and other animals killed on the state’s highways in excess of 200 this summer, and think last year’s slaughtered by vehicles will be topped in 1954. William E. Sutton, assistant construction and maintenance engineer for the highway department, said maintenance between Baggs and Creston had removed the battered carcasses of 39 antelope and four deer this summer on the 50-mile stretch of highway. “This is one of the critical areas where game crossing our highways present an extra danger to drivers,” Sutton said.

More than 400 skaters, 43 of them with pledges, raised $3,016 for muscular dystrophy during a skate-a-thon from noon till midnight Saturday. The skate-a-thon was sponsored by local Maverik stores. “I was amazed at what we did.” said Maverik Manager Joanne Allen. “There are over 100 Maverik stores and we did the best of any stores in the company.” Leslie Otto, 10 raised the most in pledges, $356. Otto won a 10-speed bicycle, donated by Kmart employees. The skaters were given a free pizza party by Godfather’s Pizza and Pizza Hut. There also were prizes donated by McDonald’s.
