From the Oct. 18, 1934 News Record:
“When Wyoming adopted Prohibition back in 1919, it was nailed down and clinched with a constitutional amendment, so that repeal could come only the hard way,” said Lester G. Baker, field representative of the Constitutional Prohibition Repeal Association of Wyoming, with headquarters in Cheyenne, upon his arrival in Gillette last evening. “Constitutionally, Wyoming is as dry as the Sahara, but the majority of the electorate, observing liquor sold in every city, town, hamlet and crossroad of the state, has been lulled into the belief that Wyoming, like her sister states, is wet, hence little attention has been paid to the subject of Prohibition repeal that is to come before the voters November 6th next.”

A brackish water desalting plant equal in size to the largest ever built in the United States will be incorporated into the city’s $950,000 water treatment plant now under construction in northwest Gillette. Work on the unit, the third stage in a plan to purify and soften the city’s water, got under way Oct. 12 when graders moved onto the construction site to begin preliminary groundwork. Mayor C.H. “Cliff” Davis said that concrete forms for the new buildings are being poured this week, and that the project appears well on its way to completion by late May or early June of next year. The 1.5 million-gallon per day plant will be able to serve a population nearly twice that of Gillette’s.
