From the Oct. 18, 1934 News Record:
ERA officers here were authorized yesterday to continue with the proposed project to provide necessary board and room for boys and girls of high school age who are members of rural destitute families. The high school board will cooperate with the ERA in this project. Board and room will be given in approved homes on the basis of $15 for one student, $27.50 for two students and three or more students, $12.50 per student. Students will be expected to help with the duties of the home, if it is so desired. Students receiving the benefit of this service must be drawn out of rural families registered for relief or from borderline destitute families not registered for relief but who, in the opinion of the supervisory committee, are unable to pay prevailing rates for board and room in the locality which the high school is situated. The ERA of Gillette offices would appreciate applications immediately from people of Gillette who are willing to take one or more students on this basis.
From the Oct. 5, 1951 News Record:
The first of the 28 units of Gillette’s new $6,000 mercury-vapor lamp street lighting system have been erected and now only foul weather or a flood can hinder the city workmen from finishing the job shortly. All the needed materials for erection of the 400 mercury-vapor watt units are on hand and the system will be in operation just as soon as the job of erecting them is finished. The lights are mounted on a tall, silver painted pole and add much to the appearance of main street as well as the other streets that they will grace.

An estimated 45 percent of the production of the central portion of the Hilight oil field in southern Campbell County has already been produced, Vince Tesone, drilling and production manager for Inexco Oil Co., told a hearing at Casper last week. The life of the field was predicted to be “short, but prolific,” by the representative of the oil company, which had discovered the Hilight field in 1969.
