From the Oct. 30, 1969 News Record:
The second casualty from Campbell County was claimed by the war in Vietnam last week. The U.S. Army reported on Oct. 20 that Sp.-4 Craig T. Marrington, 20, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Marrington, had died of wounds received in active combat on the previous day. Few details concerning the death of Sp.-4 Marrington have been received by his family. A telegram related he had gone on a combat operation with his unit of the 1st Infantry Division on Oct. 19 when a hostile force was encountered. After receiving wounds, he was admitted to a military medical facility in Vietnam, where he succumbed on the following day. Marrington entered the U.S. Army as a draft volunteer last February.

Campbell County voters will decide whether or not to expand the county’s hospital Tuesday. A special referendum election will decide whether the Campbell County Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees may issue $12.5 million in bonds to finance a two-story addition to the hospital. The expansion project would more than double the number of patient rooms now available with the addition of two more floors and completion of the existing third floor. Hospital officials say the present facility, which opened in February, is already filled to 80 percent of capacity most of the time. And with the population of Gillette and Campbell County growing rapidly, they feel going ahead with the planned expansion now will avoid the need to add facilities in a “piecemeal” fashion later.
