From the Nov. 5, 1953 News Record:
Otis Wright, well known rancher of Campbell County, and W.W. Smith, vice president of the Stockmens Bank of Gillette, returned Saturday from a 10-day trip to Washington, D.C, with the cattlemen’s caravan, which sought to urge the immediate application of price supports for the cattle industry. The resolution, given Secretary of Agriculture Ezra T. Benson by the cattlemen’s group, was the same as that submitted to the secretary on Oct. 10 by the agriculture committee of the House of Representatives. The price floor action was urged through the secretary’s discretionary power, under the present farm law, by which he can support the price of an commodity up to 90 percent of parity by loans to producers, purchases of the commodity or by other means.
From the Oct. 30, 1969 News Record:
A Gillette man, Jack Morrison, 32, is in critical condition at the Natrona County Memorial Hospital in Casper this week after receiving a bullet wound in the head here last Friday night. Mrs. Jean Cora Morrison, 30, was arrested Friday night and arraigned Saturday morning before Justice of the Peace LaFern Harrod on a charge of aggravated assault. Details of the events leading to the shooting were not available from local authorities.

Police say a 17-year-old Gillette boy has confessed to the murder of a store clerk after a rifle was found under a tree at his Foothills Subdivision residence. Dale Edward Geesaman, 17, of 341 Nogales Way, was arraigned this morning on a charge of first-degree murder in the commission of a felony in the Oct. 9 shooting death of Ruth VanNortrick. The 43-year-old woman was a night clerk at the 7-Eleven store at Foothills Boulevard and Second Street. Gillette Police Chief Bob Hartman said a .22-caliber rifle was found last week by two children playing under a Russian olive tree in the yard where Geesaman lives. VanNortrick was found dead about 3:30 a.m. Oct. 9. She had been shot several times. Her body was found behind the counter by two men who came into the store to buy gas. Geesamen and his roommate, William Edward Corrick, 19, also were suspects in the theft of two motorcycles Friday night from the city impound lot on north Burma Road, Harman said.
