From the Oct. 30, 1969 News Record:
The first of two houses to make way for the new Campbell County Courthouse was torn down last week at the corner of Gillette Avenue and Fifth Street. The old stucco covered two-story home on the corner was literally knocked down, but the other home will be taken away in one piece — if possible, Leonard Mathison, local contractor, stated. County officials hope to call for bids on the new courthouse shortly after the first of the year.

A local bookstore has stopped selling two magazines after the county attorney said the magazines may be obscene. But County Attorney Terry D. Preuit said he doesn’t plan to prosecute the bookstore owners under a state obscenity law. Preuit said he asked Richard Hanes of Hanes Newstand and Jewelry to remove the two “offending periodicals from his racks” as a “non-criminal disposition” of a complaint brought to his office. Preuit said Lee Roy Woodard of Gillette had complained to him that Hanes Newstand was selling what Woodard believed to be pornographic magazines. The county attorney would not identify the periodicals by name.
