From the nov. 14, 1929 news record:
Endurance skaters stick it out 22 hours. Dick Sanders was winner of first place and a $25 prize in the endurance contest given by M.C. Rowley, proprietor of the local skating rink. The three contestants, Dick Sanders, Glen Gravat, familiarly known as “Hawaiian Slim,” and Harold Thayer, entered the rink at 10 o’clock Saturday night. They skated 22 hours without rest and all contestants stopped at almost the same time, about 8 o’clock Saturday night. “Hawaiian Slim” was awarded a second prize of $5. Mr. Rowley timed the number of times the contestants circled the floor in an hour and computed the possible distance traveled at 125 miles.
From the NoV. 30, 1944 News Record:
Last week the telephone line of the W.J.K. was completed and the phones connected with the George Keeline and J.A. Jacobs ranches. The W.R. Wright ranch connection has not yet been completed. It is the first time that telephone service has been available that far south in the county, 60 miles of line having been required. The equipment used is standard.
From the nov. 22, 1973 News Record:
“Word has been received by The American Legion Department of Wyoming, that some 440 veterans will be trained for jobs in the environmental protection area under a recent $1.85 million Department of Labor contract with the Environmental Protection Agency”, stated E.M. “Gene” Hirsch, Department Adjutant, the American Legion. Hirsch continued “The terms of the one-year contract call for 40 percent of the authorized 2,200 trainees be new hires, with half of those drawn from the ranks of unemployed Vietnam era veterans.” Labor Secretary Peter J. Brennan, in announcing the contracts, said that “developing jobs in pollution control is significant because it attacks two basic problems facing Americans today — providing work for veterans and the disadvantaged, and improvement and maintenance of a clean environment for everyone.”
