From the Nov. 15, 1951 News Record:
Two more Campbell County farmers have joined the ranks of big potatoes growers. Both displayed last Saturday large potatoes produced on their places the past season. Dan Bennor, who has a small acreage just around the corner from the Bates place southwest of town, brought in 12 potatoes that weighed 19 and a half pounds. One of them weighed a little over 2 pounds Mrs. Mitchell Batinivich also brought in a number of the big tubers, three of which weighed 5 pounds and 4 ounces. She reported that they had a row and a half about 100 feet long and harvested five sacks. Mr. Bennor had several hundred pounds of potatoes, but was soon sold out locally, reserving only a few sacks for his own use.

Gillette’s first Sunday newspaper is one day away. News Record subscribers won’t have to leave home on Sunday to buy a newspaper anymore. The News Record’s first Sunday edition makes its debut this Sunday morning and will be waiting for them in their paper tube or on the doorstep. There are many new features News Record subscribers can look forward to, ranging from color comics, to Saturday night sports scores from around the nation. A guest columnist will be featured every week on the opinion page, a member of the community expressing his or her views on issues affecting our lives. The honor of being first goes to Dick Mader, a Campbell County rancher, auctioneer, and an outspoken advocate of the conservative viewpoint. Marketplace, which measures the pulse of the business community, has been moved from its Wednesday publication date and will now anchor Sunday’s second section. And what would a Sunday paper be without color comics?
