From the Dec. 7, 1944 News Record:
After 13 weeks, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Butler announce that they have completed a big job, that of redecorating the Goings Hotel. Every room in the place has been thoroughly gone over with paint and varnish. Joe Drake, local painter, has been on the job continuously, and there is not a niche that has been missed. The lobby has been enlarged by eliminating an inside room. As soon as new furniture arrives this section will afford much comfort for the Goings Hotel guests. Writing tables will be placed there for their convenience. A storm door also has been put on the main entrance and Larry informs us that storm windows have been ordered for the entire building. Mr. and Mrs. Butler recently purchased the hotel and are making every effort to warrant the trade of the traveling public as well as the home people.
From the dec. 20, 1951 News Record:
“... And what to my wondering eyes should appear but a twin-engined airplane in place of his deer.” That’s the way Mr. Moore’s poem will read in Gillette next Saturday. Old St. Nick himself is going to fly into Gillette next Saturday to start the Community Council’s big Christmas tree off with a bang. He has forsaken his old mode of transportation for the modern way. His faithful old team will be missed this Christmas by the children of the nation, but there are so many more kiddies that it became necessary to adopt a faster mode of transportation. From the North Pole he will fly to Whitehorse, Alaska, thence through Montana, and will land at the Gillette Municipal airport on the afternoon of the 22nd next Saturday at 2 p.m. The whole population of the town and countryside is invited out to meet the old fellow. At 2 p.m. the same day, a big parade will take place, led by Santa himself.
From the Dec. 5, 1981 News Record:
Vehicle license cards for “Campell County” residents hoping to get an early start on buying 1986 license tags will go into the mail today, and don’t blame the misspelled county name on Treasurer Shirley Study. This year the treasurer’s office will be using the state-printed registration and card system for the second time, said Study, and for the second time the card printers have misspelled Campbell County. “It gets irritating, “ Study said, “because people think we print them. Last year we got notes saying, ‘Don’t you know how to spell your own county?’”
