From the Jan. 5 1956 News Record:
The Christmas trees that lined both sides of main street during the holiday season were collected the early part of the week and will be used in a huge bonfire Saturday at 8 o’clock, it was announced by Al Sorenson, troop committee chairman of the Boy Scouts. Everyone is invited to add their trees to the pile located on the hill behind the high school. A ceremony is planned at the striking of the fire.
From the Jan. 7 1965 News Record:
High winds that blew all day Sunday and into the night caused electrical service problems in eastern and northern sections of Gillette on Sunday night and early Monday morning, it was reported by Gene Warlow, city light and water superintendent. The winds kept slapping high voltage wires together until they shorted out and caused quite a fireworks display in east Gillette. City workmen were called out and electric outages around the city ranged from one to five hours through the night. Some sections of Gillette were not out of service. Many street lights were found to have been burned out as high voltage melted bulbs into their sockets, Warlow said.
