From the Jan. 18, 1945 News Record:
The Echeta coal mine has recently added two pieces of heavy-duty equipment to facilitate mining operations. A Traxcavator with a two and one-half yard bucket has been put into operation. It has a loading capacity of 300 tons per hour, according to Chet Oliver, mine superintendent. The second machine is a new double row, 24 inch crusher put into use for the first time yesterday. It will crush about 125 tons an hour. The mine has a crew of 40 men with the Roush Construction company as the operators. The coal and slack are all shipped to war production firms throughout the West and Northwest.
From the Jan. 5, 1956 News Record:
Gor Don, the escape artist, will stage a show at the high school auditorium tonight in which he will release himself from a straight jacket during one act and from a flaming stake in another act, according to advanced publicity. The show promises to be one and a half hours of music and comedy in addition to the escapist acts.
From the Jan. 7, 1965 News Record:
Ronald Hendrix of Gillette received word that his brother, Russell Hendrix of Carthage, S.D., was accidentally shot in the right leg on New Year’s Eve as he stepped into a friend’s car. A shotgun had been left in the car with the safety off, and was accidentally discharged. He was rushed to the hospital where he underwent surgery. His condition is reported as serious, but he is responding as well as can be expected. Hendrix is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Stoner, and had planned to leave Carthage on New Year’s day to return to Gillette to make his home.
