From the March 20, 1940 News Record:
CODY — Richard Holler, 42, night marshal of Cody, was shot and killed here late today by George Gentner Jr., 28, in what police believed to be an argument over the younger man’s domestic difficulties. Gentner, who recently was estranged from his wife, immediately surrendered to officers and was held for investigation. The night marshal was struck three times in the chest with bullets from a pistol Gentner was carrying. He died shortly after the shooting. Holler was one of the leaders of the hunt a year ago this month for the northern Wyoming madman, Earl “Tarzan” Durand.
From the March 15, 1951 News Record:
A tragedy that was a great shock to this community occurred Tuesday evening when Dale Hitson, 21, was killed in a truck accident on Highway 14-16, two miles east of Leiter. Dale and his cousin, Buster Griffin, were returning from Sheridan when the truck Dale was driving started to leave the highway and then veering back onto the highway, throwing Dale out and turning over. Dale landed headlong on the pavement, practically crushing his head. The Champion ambulance was called from Sheridan to rush him to the hospital. He died before reaching Sheridan. According to Griffin, he noticed the truck was creeping over to the left side of the road and as it was about to go over the shoulder he called to Dale. As he called, Dale, who had evidently dozed off, awoke with a start, and gave the steering wheel a jerk, which caused the truck to jump back onto the highway and in so doing threw Dale out and tipped over. Griffin suffered some bruises and cuts, but nothing serious. The accident happened about 20 minutes to 7, according to Dale’s watch, which had stopped that time.
From the March 9, 1961 News Record:
Sheriff Leonard Mecham of Buffalo suggested a bank should safe keep $1,000 in receipts from the Northeast Wyoming district high school basketball tournament. So, Johnson County high school officials took the advice. A few hours later, a window was pried open at the high school and burglars expecting to find the $1,000 located only $25 in change, it was reported by Buffalo officials.
