RAPID CITY, S.D. — A Wyoming man who was shot by law officers following a vehicle chase in the Rapid City area has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and six other felonies stemming from the alleged incident.
Authorities allege that 42-year-old James Baker, of Gillette, Wyo., fled from a traffic stop early in the morning Jan. 10 and led officers on a chase before emerging from his vehicle and firing his 9 mm semiautomatic handgun at officers. The officers returned fire and shot Baker at least twice, in the upper torso and hand.
Pennington County Deputy State's Attorney Lara Roetzel (reht-zurl) says charges were brought Thursday against Baker, formerly of Box Elder, S.D.
