Gov. Mead to appoint new treasurer by Friday

Posted 10/22/12

CASPER, Wyo. — Wyoming Republicans are set to meet Monday in Riverton to begin the process of selecting a new state treasurer.

The Casper Star-Tribune reports the Wyoming Republican Party Central Committee will vet 10 candidates and narrow the field to three applicants from which Gov. Matt Mead will choose. The candidates will give nominating speeches and field questions from members of the committee at the meeting.

Mead will interview the candidates Wednesday and, by Friday, must appoint a successor to Joe Meyer, who died of cancer Oct. 6 at the age of 71.

The meeting on Monday is the first public discussion on the issue.
