Groups join to protect waterfowl

Posted 8/27/12

CASPER — Wildlife officials say hundreds of trumpeter swans, ducks and other waterfowl are finding refuge in several hidden sanctuaries on Wyoming’s Wind River Reservation.

Tribal leaders, officials with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Natural Resources Conservation Service are working on 14 wetland habitat restoration projects that cover nearly 1,000 acres of land — part of a project that has been going on for more than 15 years.

The Alkali Lake Project near Fort Washakie is one of the projects that wildlife officials hope will benefit waterfowl.
