CHEYENNE — The state House of Representatives has approved a proposed constitutional amendment that would allow nonresidents to serve on the University of Wyoming Board of Trustees.
The House on Tuesday voted 42-15 for the proposal. The state Senate must agree to changes the House made to the resolution.
The UW trustees now consist of 12 members appointed by the governor and confirmed by the state Senate. The state constitution requires that all be Wyoming residents.
Proponents of the measure say UW could benefit from the knowledge and experience of successful nonresidents being on the board.
The constitutional amendment would have to be approved by Wyoming voters.
