Jackson spends over $2,800 per town resident

JACKSON, Wyo. — The town of Jackson spends more money per resident than any city in Wyoming.

According to a state report, Jackson spent about $2,830 for each of its nearly 9,600 residents over the last fiscal year.

The town spent $27.1 million from July 2011 to June 2012, excluding utilities. The next-closest big spender was Gillette, which spent about $2,700 per person.

Seventeen other cities spent less than $2,000 per capita.

Town Manager Bob McLaurin tells the Jackson Hole News & Guide (http://bit.ly/VAg87l) that the report doesn't consider the large number of visitors the town serves.

He says during the peak summer tourism season, Jackson often accommodates 40,000 to 50,000 visitors a day.

Jackson brought in the second most revenue per citizen, behind Gillette.
