Mass of Christian Burial for John “Jake” Harold Jacobson will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Cliff Jacobson officiating.
Burial will follow in Mount Pisgah Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. with a vigil and rosary from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Gillette Memorial Chapel.
Mr. Jacobson, 69, of Gillette, died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012, at his home of cancer.
He was born Dec. 24, 1942, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Harold and Marianne (Slobodney) Jacobson.
He graduated from Lexington High School in Lexington, Neb., in 1961. He attended college at Kearney State College in Nebraska. He graduated from Alexian Brothers School of Nursing in Chicago in 1966.
He married the love of his life Sept. 17, 1966.
He joined the United States Navy in 1966, receiving his honorable discharge as a lieutenant in 1970.
They moved to Rochester, Minn., where he attended Mayo Clinic School of Anesthesia from 1970 to 1972. He moved with his family to Marshfield, Wis., where he worked for the Marshfield Clinic from 1972 until 1982.
He moved to Texas and worked for Nausau St. Johns Hospital for a year before moving to Gillette in 1983, where he worked for Northern Plains Anesthesia from 1983 until 1996. He was a traveling nurse anesthetist when he retired.
In his retirement, he was a substitute bus driver for Campbell County School District. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Matthew’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, knitting, cross stitch, woodworking, computers, motorcycles, auto mechanics and recently went zip lining.
Mr. Jacobson is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Jacobson of Gillette; sons, Joseph Jacobson of Gillette and Steven Jacobson of Tehachapi, Calif.; daughters, Kathleen “Katie” Jacobson of Gillette and Shawn Hasquet of Sheridan; mother, Marianne Fagot of Lexington, Neb.; sister, LaDonna Beiker of Pahrump, Nev.; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, stepfather, Joseph Fagot and stepbrother, Raymond Fagot.
