Josephine M. “Joan” Dillon

Josephine M. “Joan” Dillon, 88, of Gillette died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at Primrose Assisted Living.

She was born April 23, 1924, in Kingsville, Ontario, Canada, to Joseph and Sarah (Alexander) Currie. As a young child, she moved with her family to New York where she went to school. In her younger years, she went to work to help support her family.

She later met Captain Dana Dillon of the Merchant Marines. They married on Feb. 5, 1955, in Brooklyn, N.Y. After they were married, they both shipped out. She served as a librarian on the ship. Their travels took them around the world on a one-year honeymoon. They then decided to start a family and Donna and Deirdre were born. In 1968, their family moved to Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. They were members of the Ponte Vedra Club for 44 years. She served in the Ponte Vedra Women’s Club and the gardening club for 20 years. She was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church in Ponte Vedra.

Mr. Dillon is survived by her two daughters, Donna McMahill of Gillette, and Deirdre Bates of Kingwood, Texas; a brother, David Currie of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Joseph.
