Memorial services for Karen Schuler will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17, 2012, at Gillette Memorial Chapel.
Karen Kay Schuler, 50, of Gillette, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, in Sturgis, S.D., due to a heart-related health problem.
Karen Schuler was born on Aug. 29, 1961, in Gillette, the daughter of Buck and Carole (Holmes) Kunce.
After attending Upton High School, Karen married the late Dale Johnson of North Platte, Neb., in 1979. To this union a son, Jeremiah was born in October of that year.
She married Jerry Huggans of Burwell, Neb., in 1990, and two more children were born, Brandon and Devanie.
In 1994, she met the love of her life, Bob Schuler, of Gillette. Bob had two children of his own, Brett and Teresa Schuler, who Karen accepted and loved.
During their 17-year relationship, they did everything together. Some of their favorite activities were taking motorcycle rides, going on road trips to the Oregon Coast, attending the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, and visiting with friends.
Sadly, Bob was lost to cancer in 2008. Karen loved her kids and husband more than life, and always tried to help people in need. Everyone who knew her would agree that “The Wagonburner” had the biggest heart in all of Wyoming. Karen will be sorely missed, but never forgotten.
Karen is survived by her son, Jeremiah (Amy) Johnson of Alaska; daughter, Devanie Huggans of Gillette; son, Brandon Huggans of Gillette; grandchildren, Gage and Carter Johnson of Alaska and Billy Knight of Gillette; mother, Carole (Dennis) Hudson of Piedmont, S.D.; sisters, JoAnn Sneathen of Gillette and Thelma Ducheneaux of Colorado; brothers, Don (Brandi) Holmes of Newcastle, Chad Hodson of Upton and Wayne Holmes of Gillette. Also, as a testament to her big heart, Karen has what she lovingly called her “adopted family” Shirley and Dave Wall of Wright, Dave Manning of Gillette, Justin Curry of Gillette and Rick and Kim Bishop of Brookings, Ore., as well as many others.
Memorials and condolences may be sent in Karen’s name in care of Gillette Memorial Chapel, 210 W. Fifth St., Gillette, WY 82716 or condolences via the Internet at www.gillettememorialchapel.com.
