A Mass of Christian burial for Kathleen L. Schmitz, 67, of Rozet was celebrated Nov. 17 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Northeast Columbia Heights, Minn.

She died Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper of cancer.

Her ashes will be brought back to Wyoming for private burial.

Ms. Schmitz was born July 8, 1945, in Columbia Heights, Minn., to Nicholas and Malinda (Boevers) Schmitz. She graduated from St. Anthony of Padua High School in 1963. She attended the University of Minnesota. She retired after 28 years with the city of Fridley, Minn., as a liquor store manager.

In 1994, she moved with her partner to Rozet and spent the next 18 years as a personal caregiver while also helping to manage the ranch.

She loved softball and she played for many Minnesota teams, including the Avanti’s. She loved traveling, especially to the Grand Tetons. She also loved winters in Arizona, playing cribbage and bingo with family and friends, as well as watching the wildlife and the Little League World Series.

She was an avid fisherwoman and hunter. She had always wanted a horse. She wound up with eight as well as a 4-month-old foal in the house. She kept baby ducks in her kitchen sink, a baby pig in her lap, 92 bum lambs, plus kittens and puppies. Her family and friends were also important to her.

She is survived by her best friends and partners, Cindy Stewart, Blue and Sage, and nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her sisters, Ramona Lundholm and Jaunita Rogers; her brother, Nicholas Schmitz; one nephew and two great-nieces.
