Lakota author to lead bow-making workshop

RAPID CITY, S.D. — The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology is hosting a Lakota bow-making workshop and presentation for students and the public next week.

Rosebud Sioux author and speaker Joseph M. Marshall III will present a workshop titled “Life Lesson of the Bow” at the School of Mines Surbeck Center Ballroom on Oct. 10 at 4:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

The project is funded through the South Dakota Humanities Council. The goal of the program is to highlight programming and support for underrepresented students on the school campus.

Marshall was born and raised on the Rosebud Indian Reservation. He is a founder of the Sinte Gleska University and has published more than 10 books and appeared in several documentaries.
