Lawmakers fixing AG investigation law

Posted 3/14/13

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah lawmakers have drafted last-minute legislation to fix a gap in state law so state Attorney General John Swallow will not be tasked with investigating a complaint filed against him.

A progressive political group filed a complaint with the Utah lieutenant governor’s office last week alleging Swallow violated election law by failing to report several business interests on his campaign disclosures.

Utah’s current law says if a complaint filed with the State Elections Office warrants an investigation, that complaint is referred to the Attorney General’s Office to investigate.
