Legislature passes UW trustees board changes

Posted 2/14/13

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — A proposal to amend the state constitution to allow nonresidents to serve on the University of Wyoming Board of Trustees has passed the Legislature.

The resolution now goes to Gov. Matt Mead for his consideration. If Mead signs the resolution, the proposal will be put to a statewide vote in the 2014 general election.

Currently, the UW trustees consist of 12 members appointed by the governor and confirmed by the state Senate. The state constitution requires that all be Wyoming residents.

Supporters of the resolution say UW could benefit from the knowledge and experience of successful nonresidents being on the university's governing board.
